Lawyer of the Year
2003

Every day, the more than 30,000 practicing lawyers in Michigan contribute to the profession in one way or another, largely without recognition.

In this special issue, Lawyers Weekly has selected 11 Michigan attorneys who stood out from the crowd during 2003 — by winning important cases, being involved in matters that raise challenging legal issues and otherwise furthering the profession's commitment to the rule of law and concept of justice.

These attorneys represent the broad spectrum of law practice in Michigan. They include solos, small firm practitioners and lawyers in large firms. They practice in Grand Rapids, Detroit and other regions of the state. Their specialty areas vary from legal malpractice to criminal defense.

Some of the lawyers selected have been involved in cases that many would consider controversial. In highlighting these attorneys, Michigan Lawyers Weekly does not necessarily endorse the result achieved in any particular matter, but simply acknowledges the significance of the controversy for the law and for society.
